“Godsend” Discussion

One theory that I heard about the Haitian vs. Eden: Anytime that Eden *suggested* something to HRG, the Haitian would erase HRG’s memory of the *suggestion*, thereby nullifying Eden’s power.
This could also be applied to Matt in that the Haitian immediately erases any thoughts that Matt might glean from HRG’s mind.
As interesting as the theory is, I don’t really buy it because it assumes the Haitian knows when a special is there and is using his/her powers(line of sight does not seem to be needed, think of Matt, HRG and Claire in the police station, or when Matt is only able to get the word “Sylar” from HRG outside Primatech). I think that Mr. Haitian’s eliminating powers only work on powers of a psychic nature. Eden’s power and Matt’s can be blocked because they’re coming from the mind, where Nathan’s power is a strictly physical power, and only affects himself.
I realize that theory is kinda lame, too, but it’s the best I’ve got right now. We’ll just have to see what Tim and company have in store for us. But here’s a thought: what would happen if the Haitian and Peter got together? Would the Haitian nullify Peter? Or would Peter nullify the Haitian? Or would it not matter because the world would simply implode in on itself?
In regards to tracking/finding the “Specials”, I think HRG (and his No Acronym group) are using the same type of mechanism as Mohinder’s dad was working on … It is an algorithm to be used in conjunction with the Human Genome Project database to locate possible “Specials”, which is why HRG stated that Mo’s father knew more than he did. IMHO, I think HRG’s group is using an older, less precise algorithm than the Suresh’s. Therefore, it was just pure chance that Matt started developing abilities a couple days before their meeting … Remember, HRG said how far along Matt was … i.e. HRG found him just in time & he did not find Matt because he used his power.
I think the Haitian’s mental shield is more of a bi-product of his gift, rather than a 2nd power. However, I do agree that it only blocks mental powers (i.e. Matt’s mind-reading or Eden’s power of suggestion) … Or the power truly is HRG’s?!?
Did anyone notice when NBC list the powers in the online videos they put D.L. as a Shape-Shifter? Go to NBC.
Yeah, I emailed Graham and Tucker a few days ago asking about that. That’s not the only when it’s shown up. If you get the dismal DVD from Netflix, it lists his ability as “Shape shifting” instead of “Phasing” which is what everyone thought his power was.
I broached this question with the podcasters, “Do you think that D.L. is going to learn to better control his cells, to not only shift them and phase through solids but also to morph his cells and keep them that way?”
I’m super-hyped!!!
Concerning Chair’s reference to travelling, I think there’s something to that.
Why? Well Eden’s body was found in Ontario, quite a distance from Texas where Primatech is located. For a second I was thinking, ‘do we really know that Primatech is in Texas?’ And the answer to that is YES, cause we know Claire visited there. Unless there’s some portal from Primatech to the ‘lab’ section of it that goes somewhere else. Which is actually possible and would have made it very hard for the FBI to find when they showed up.
And Doug, yes, I did see that! I also noticed that Sylar wasn’t listed with an ability. He was the only ’special’ that wasn’t.
So, first off.
Love the podcast – best heroes one out there.
Second some random thoughts, theories, etc after seeing this episode.
1. If you see the latest comic you can zoom in on the diagram of the gun and it very specifically shows it is for delivering serum. So the marks seem tied to some sort of serum injection. One of the primary uses of a serum is to transfer an immunity from one person to another. I tend to agree with others posting here that somehow it activates people’s powers, and perhaps also grows the mark in accordance to the level of power maturity.
2. In the preview for the next week we see that Claire may talk to her mom. Who her Dad is going to be seems to be a big mystery – I’ve heard it will be a huge plot twist and surprise. That leads me to believe it is someone we’ve met on show.
OK – my theory – after really thinking about this – I think her father is HRG himself – Mr. Bennett. He said something went really wrong with her mother when bringing her in. What if what went wrong is HRG fell in love, had an affair, and boom Claire…
3. Finally, do we know for sure HRG has no power? I forget, but is it possible that the erase memory power is the Haitians, and the nullify power ability is HRGs? We see Eden having to tell Sylar to not use his power when they catch him, but the Haitian is right there – why bother? Anyway, I’m probably totally forgetting some scene that shows this to not be the case and am blowing smoke… Maybe HRG has some control over his ability to turn off others powers… We certainly have seen him around others when they use their ability.

Did anyone notice that when Matt is trying to read HRG’s thoughts at Primatech and you get a shot of the Haitian in the background – the medallion the Haitian is wearing is the ’symbol’ – the same one on the sword and on Nikki/Jessica’s tattoo?

Okay, I just had a crazy idea while searching Heroes Wiki: what if future Hiro IS Linderman? After all, Linderman could be anybody, and with Hiro’s ability to travel back in time would allow him to alter history to do his bidding. True this would take an incredible character shift, but it also be how Hiro gets a sword. Perhaps Future Hiro gives the sword to Present Hiro, who gives is to Present Hiro in the past. What do ya’ll think?
Hiro being Linderman also occurred to me. My main issue when I really thought about it was that Linderman seems pretty sleazy – look at all he’s been involved with. That just doesn’t seem to fit with Hiro’s character and would be too big of a break with reality. I like the idea from a plot twist perspective. I really hope the Linderman reveal is one that takes much that we thought we knew and turns it on it’s head… I suspect it might be the finale cliffhanger reveal.

Oh my god…..godsend rocked! I can’t believe it. They are finally coming together. It was so cool seeing some of the Hero’s in the same room together. I think that as the more Hero’s come together the more crazy it’s going to get. Is Mr. Bennett going to help more Hero’s come into their abilities? Is he going to find out that Claire still remembers everything? Is Peter really going to die? Too many questions…..too little answers.
Here is my crazy theory of the week. What if Hiro is Takezo Kensei. After Hiro gets the sword he goes back in time, is trained as a Samuri and of course feels he needs to be a hero in the 16th century so does everything Hiro mentioned in the bedtime story. Then Hiri returns to normal time trained as a samuri, contollin his powers and ready to be a hero in the 21st century. It could explain the family relationship.

If Peter is near Sylar does he get all the powers that Sylar has consumed so far, or does he just get the power to “figure out what makes things tick ”
I think a awsome season ender would be Sylar and Peter dualing it out. All the Heroes need to be around Peter, he will be floating in the air glowing with radiation ready to open up a can on Sylar.

I just have to say that Peter is my favorite character. Personally after watching “Godsend” i was scared for him and i know that that is corny but it wouldn’t be Heroes with out Peter. His character is in my opinion more complex because he absorbs powers istead of possesing his own. Your heart goes out to him cause his bro isnt there for him and it must be even more confusing for him than for the other heroes. I also feel sympathetic for Clair but i think that comes from knowing what high school is really like and being able to compar. Its a harsh world (high school that is)and when you dont have anyone, its cold and lonley event tho your surroned by people. I dont kno what i would do with out my bff. In a place were being one and not and individial is so important, its hard to be different. Plus i cant imagne not knoing my parents on top of that. And i thought i was stressed. Look at the other heroes they all have someone to confide in. It cant be easy for them. But we can relate and thats why we love it. dont we?
